The MICAS (KU Leuven) Micro-Credential Course on Analog Layout concluded this week at KU Leuven ESAT-MICAS, taught by industry experts from ICsense, SOFICS, OMNIVISION, Cyient, and Caeleste.

Organised by Prof. Patrick Reynaert, the course offered the opportunity to learn from industry experts in the microelectronics field, introduced the layout of analog integrated circuits, software tools, reliability aspects of the devices and much more. Participants took part in theoretical sessions as well as several hands-on training sessions over eight days.

Arne Crouwels, Senior Analog Design Engineer at Caeleste, presented the fifth and sixth day of the course. This included a full overview of image sensing concepts, review of diode theory, introduction to pixel array layouts, floor-planning, pixel drivers and readout chain. Hands-on sessions allowed attendees design and lay-out their own custom sensor design with professional guidance and advice on-hand.

The concluding module introduced large wafer scale and stitched design layout, covering micro-lenses and light guides, layout optimization for yield and 3D stacking technologies, preparing the attendees for the future challenges faced by the industry.

The initiative underlines the strategic importance of the microelectronics industry to the Belgian and European economies, providing a broad array of training solutions to reskill and upskill the workforce to face the challenges of this ever-changing industry.
